A Commitment to Our Guests
Las Vegas Sands Corp. is committed to providing each and every guest with an unforgettable experience. This commitment extends to every facet of LVSC resorts, right down to the casino floor. While great pride is taken in showing each guest unparalleled excitement at the tables and at the machines, equal pride is taken in promoting an atmosphere of responsible gaming and making a commitment to the personal wellbeing of the guests.
As such, LVSC has taken the following steps:
- Providing the industry’s most comprehensive and cutting-edge training program for our Team Members
- Providing collateral materials for our guests including printed materials and signage throughout our properties
- Providing a resource card for each Team Member, ensuring they have the most up-to-date and accurate information regarding responsible gaming available at all times
- Strictly prohibiting underage gambling, drinking, and tobacco use.
LVSC believes that a positive Responsible Gaming Program begins with its top executives and extends to each and every Team Member. It is in this spirit that LVSC has developed “Play Responsibly,” the industry’s most comprehensive and responsible gaming program, developed in partnership with the Harvard University Medical School, the Cambridge Health Alliance, and several other public health professionals and organizations. LVSC also looks for local resources and partners with organizations in every community in which it operates.
All LVSC Team Members are trained on the latest information about responsible gaming, some of the warning signs of a problem gambler, and where to direct a guest if help is needed. This includes directing guests to the Play Responsibly materials and a help line they can call for further assistance.
In addition to training each and every Team Member, Play Responsibly is also visible throughout the property for our guests. This includes signage on the casino floor and throughout each property, messaging on the ATMs, and information in every suite to encompass the entire guest experience.
LVSC continues its partnership with Harvard University as it embarks on a first-of-its-kind research initiative. This research will test the effectiveness of the training program for Team Members, as well as test the messaging that guests retain and how they react to the Play Responsibly program. The study will be done at The Venetian and The Palazzo throughout 2008 and into 2009 by surveying guests who are staying on the property, guests who are not staying on the property, and Team Members. At the conclusion, this research will indicate how effective the program is and if modifications to training and visibility are necessary in order to be on the leading edge of this issue.
In a commitment to reach out to a community, LVSC explored existing problem gaming resources available in Pennsylvania when the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem property was in the initial development stages. Prior to LVSC receiving its gaming license for Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, it was discovered that there were very few resources to deal with this issue. So, LVSC began training individ¬uals on the topic of responsible gaming. To date, the series of seminars has been attended by over 250 professionals from across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The company continues to work with others in the gaming industry to promote awareness of problem gambling and to prohibit underage gambling, drinking, and tobacco use. In this way, LVSC helps to provide a safe atmosphere for responsible adults to enjoy the entertainment value of gaming, while offering support for those who need it. Today, Las Vegas Sands Corp. is not only one of the world’s leaders in the hospitality and gaming industry, but – through its commitment to the personal wellbeing of its guests – a community leader as well.
